Attorney, radio talk-show host and author Mark Levin was on Sean Hannity’s TV show recently to discuss his new book: Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America. While we at The 1789 Project haven’t been able to read it yet, it appears to be an excellent description of the competing political philosophies that have dominated western political thought for centuries. Levin shows how the competing political philosophies of today are the same as those of the founders’ era, and which side America’s Founding Fathers chose to take when creating this great nation. The principles of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution are clearly explained in his book, and we recommend it. Watch the following video for a brief summary.
Raising the Debt Ceiling…On Your Kids
With news that the national debt now exceeds the entire U.S. economic output, the President is soon going to request an additional increase of $1.2 trillion any day now. This is expected to bring increased inflation, with the effect of a massive middle-class tax increase. The burden of this massive debt will continue to stifle economic growth and saddle future generations with unsustainable interest payments. The following video demonstrates the foolishness of this mess by bringing the trillions and billions down to family-sized numbers.

The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: A History
The Fourteenth Amendment was ratified July 9, 1868 following rampant violations of individual liberty in the former confederacy. It was intended to ensure that natural-law rights and individual liberties protected from federal government violation by the Bill of Rights would also be protected from state governments.
Here’s a good introduction to the 14th Amendment created by the Institute for Justice. Note how the Supreme Court’s refusal to honor the original intent of the “Privileges or Immunities” clause in the 14th amendment led to inconsistent application of the amendment under the “Incorporation Doctrine.”
We Are Still A Constitutional Republic
Senator Mike Lee and Judge Napolitano discuss the status of the Constitution in American politics on Fox’s FreedomWatch. Our Constitution is still the supreme law of the land, but Congress, the executive branch, and the courts don’t seem to care about its limits on federal government power. Sen. Lee correctly explains that the answer is for voters to wake up and work to elect new leaders who will honor the Constitution. Please join The 1789 Project as we seek to do just that…
Three Constitution-Respecting State AGs Quiz The GOP Presidential Candidates

The 1789 Project has generally stayed away from discussing the Republican candidates for President of the United States. As one candidate after another has polled as the “front-runner”, or been declared such by the media, we have been paying attention, but not weighing in. Each of the candidates has some strengths and some weaknesses. Any of them would be a better President than Barack Obama, the likely Democrat nominee.
One reason we’ve been quiet on this is that the majority of the media coverage has focused on the countless debates the candidates have participated in. Most of these have been organized, moderated, etc. by people who are more interested in asking ‘gotcha’ questions than in providing clarity on the differences between the candidates on critical issues.
The recent Fox News Presidential Forum, moderated by former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, was different. Three Constitutional-Conservative Attorneys General [Ken Cuccinelli (VA), Pam Bondi (FL) and Scott Pruitt (OK)] asked serious, substantive questions that got to the core issues of federalism and the Constitution. We highly recommend watching the entire video, and please comment below with your thoughts on where the candidates were right, or wrong, on the Constitution.
Former Congressman Admits Voter Fraud is Extensive
All Republics, including ours, are based on the foundation of respect for the rule of law. Anywhere laws are ignored, or violated without penalty, our Constitution is undermined. But law-breaking is even more catastrophic when it undermines our very choice of representatives, by destroying the elections process that is the mechanics of a Republic.
Several states have recently enacted voter-ID requirements in an effort to stop widespread voter fraud, such as that attempted by ACORN. Liberal groups have opposed this effort, under the guise of looking out for ‘underprivileged minorities.’
We were pleasantly surprised to see a liberal former congressman advocating for voter ID in this video.
Help us spread the word that Voter ID is needed to ensure the continuation of our Republic.
How Hard Is It To Find Budget Cuts?

Game show legend Chuck Woolery discusses his thoughts on how to cut government spending.
The twelve members of congress on the ‘supercommittee’ just failed to find $1.2 trillion in cuts over the next ten years.
Chuck finds $1.5 trillion in common-sense cuts from only 8 government programs- and even preserves subsidies for Albino Squirels.
Health-Care Law Violating the Interstate Commerce Clause?
Attorney General Greg Abbott of Texas is one of the leaders in the fight to hold the federal government within the limits of the Constitution.
In this video he explains that the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court case will determine not only whether the Obamacare legislation was constitutional, but whether there are any limits to what the federal government can do.
If we are going to return the the federal government to following the Constitution, it starts with leaders like AG Abbott, and citizens who will work to elect legislators who will abide by the Constitution.
